Description

Essential Question:
  • What are the different types of plate boundaries and what land forms might be associated with each?
Related Benchmarks:
  • SC.912.E.6.2 - Connect surface features to surface processes that are responsible for their formation.
  • SC.912.E.6.4 - Analyze how specific geologic processes and features are expressed in Florida and elsewhere.
  • SC.912.E.6.1 - Describe and differentiate the layers of Earth and the interactions among them.
  • SC.912.E.6.3 - Analyze the scientific theory of plate tectonics and identify related major processes and features as a result of moving plates.
Objectives:
  • Students understand the the different types of plate boundaries and the landforms assocaiated with each.
Essential Vocabulary:
  • convergent boundary: when two plates are colliding
  • divergent boundary: two plates moving away from one another
  • transform boundary: plates that are sliding past each other
  • subduction zone: a colliding boundary where oceanic crust is pushed under, subducted, continental crust.
Realted Videos:

Independent Practice: FCAT Word Slam: Replication

Direct Instruction: Review tectonic plate and plate boundaries > Lecture discussion convergent boundaries, divergent boundaries and transform boundaries with smart board animations > Students take notes.
